Tweesearch: Listening to time-givers on Twitter
By Sinem Cakir , December 2013
A real time insight into the future implications for volunteering
Finding new ways to use existing free digital tools is a creative way to maximise our reach, resources and our research too. Sinem Cakir’s tweet-based research presents a different way to use Twitter, by conducting research on a platform that many audiences already interact with and can offer valuable insights to inform practice.
In an experiment using the hashtag #givemytime, Sinem captures the views of people that volunteer their time to causes they care about and extracts five themes which both align with and add some weight to known issues relating to time-giving.
For research to form part of a social leaders lifelong and sustainable practice, it may on occasion need to be quick, convenient, mobile, digitally accessible and low in cost, but high in value. Tweesearch offers all of the above and in the right context, offers fun, visibility, and increases the diversity of the ways that we listen to and engage with people.
