The care crisis: why we need feminist economics

By Polly Trenow , March 2017

Polly Trenow is a 2016 Clore Social Gender Equality Fellow supported by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. In her provocation piece, The care crisis: why we need feminist economics, she explores the economics of gender inequality and unpaid care.

She argues that gender inequality takes many forms, but none of them so deep rooted as the economic inequality that results from women undertaking unpaid care. 'Unpaid care is the backbone of our economy, so why should unpaid carers - who are mostly women - be penalised for this amazing work?'

Polly has worked in the women's sector for over a decade and campaigns to demystifying economics especially for women and the organisations that support them. This piece was developed as part of Polly's Clore Social Leadership fellowship, please download it here. You can join the conversation with her on Twitter.
