Ali has wide experience of the social sector including as Director of the London Work Based Learning Alliance and as Head of Policy and Research at Centrepoint. At the former Ali founded this membership network representing cross-sectoral government funded training providers, and represented members on a range of regional and national bodies, advising on policy and practice as well as growing a representative organisation. In both these and previous roles a key driver was the promotion and development of access to education and learning for all.
The Clore programme provided space to step back from the hurly burly of the world of learning and skills, and to immerse herself in a unique learning experience, to better understand her own motivations and ways in which to become more effective and impactful in her work. This included the practical hands-on experience of her secondment alongside experiential and more formal learning and networking. This has provided her with a sharpened focus on the role education and learning play in shaping who we are and who we become, and to continue to work to support access to learning.
Ali is currently developing a cross-cultural learning and skills initiative. The aim is to address the challenge of delivering employability and skills to bridge the gap between post-16 and post-graduate education and employment/employability.
