Anand is the Chief Executive of the Brightside Trust, which mentors young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the confidence, knowledge and connections to support them into further education and work. Brightside mentors 15,000 young people every year.
Prior to joining Brightside in 2015, Anand was the Chief Executive of Family and Childcare Trust where he advised governments in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff on family and childcare policy, and regularly appeared in the media as an expert and commentator on childcare policy. In particular, he led a successful campaign to extend free childcare provision for three and four year olds in England and Scotland and secured more funding for childcare for disabled children in England.
Anand is a non-executive director of the Social Investment Business, and is an advisor to Independence ZA – a South African charity that provides financial support to disadvantaged young people so that they can enter higher education.
He is also part of the Speakers for Schools network which provides state schools and colleges with talks from industry leaders who share their experiences with young people to broaden students' horizons and motivate them to reach their full potential.
Anand’s background is in business development, working as Business Director at Daycare Trust; and social enterprise development at the children's charity Barnardo's and the international development charity Allavida. After studying Modern History and French at Keble College, Oxford, Anand's early career was spent working in new business and product development in the private sector for publishing companies.
Anand has volunteered since university where he taught English and Maths to the children of recently arrived asylum seekers. He is a published writer on issues such as childcare; e-commerce; foreign policy and emotional intelligence. Anand is married to Manisha, a solicitor, and they have three children.
