Update October 2012

It was very inspiring to be selected to receive a scholarship to attend the Intel – EBS Summer School for Social Innovators at the EBS University, Greater Frankfurt, Germany. This event is for future social innovators from across the world to help find new solutions to solve social problems. It was great to be a finalist and leave the course with a workable idea which I will continue to explore.

I have completed my secondment with the Big Lottery Fund. I have learned how funders operate in the international funding sector and met with numerous Trusts and Foundations, including Bill and Melinda Gates, Comic Relief, Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Baring.

My Clore Social Leadership research, which will be supervised by the New Economics Foundation, explores private sector collaborations with funders to support international development. It will culminate in a launch event bringing together all the sectors and supported by The Big Lottery Fund.

Through networking and attending events I continue to build contacts and am now developing my knowledge of how the private sector works to develop sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategies. The CSLP is helping me to continue to understand the third sector as a whole and how I can best utilise my skills and experience to support and influence the work it does. I am now focusing on organising a secondment within the corporate sector to gain a better understanding of how they work within this sphere.
