Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2011
Update September 2011
The last three months have flown by, and when reflecting on them, I realise that I have made substantial progress within my Fellowship. The residential at Roffey Park, which covered the topics of resilience and strategy was a key event in this quarter. It was personally very timely, since within my work role I have taken on a new area of work and I was able to apply the models I learnt within the strategy sessions. These models allowed me to put further rigour into my work, by providing a framework for challenging my ideas and thoughts. I also very much appreciated the support and ideas that the Fellows gave me throughout my time at Roffey Park. In August, I gained further support from my fellows when I felt the power of the Action Learning sets, especially when I had the opportunity to present my ‘challenge’. It was fascinating learning hearing the wide range of questions and responses, many of which represented the array of dilemmas I often hold in my head when trying to decide on what course of action to take. The action learning set certainly gave me more clarity in terms of options available and energy and accountability to progress them.
I have also used August and September to progress my secondment. I have narrowed down the role and organisation I want to work in. I am looking for a role that allows me to look at financial models, which are not grant dependant. I would like to see if there is a link with sustainability, impact and efficiency. I also want to work for a smaller growing organisation, ideally a social enterprise. I feel this will allow me to build my financial expertise, which I have been developing through my social entrepreneur course and my MBA, as well as give me new ways of thinking. I have been meeting with key individuals and organisations in order to secure the secondment.
I have had less success with my research, and have reassessed my chosen topic area. However with the support of nfpSynergy I now have put steps in place that will enable me to develop a plan to take this forward.
In addition in this quarter I have also taken up a trustee position at my Walthamstow CAB, and am enjoying learning about governance and being involved with a charity within my local community. All this plus maintaining my life balance and having a lovely summer break.
