Update December 2012

Over the last quarter, my time has been consumed with my research which looks at impact practices of large charities. I have interviewed sixteen individuals from seven large charities. For each charity I interviewed both front line staff as well as ‘impact champions’ in senior positions to elicit their opinions on what the key drivers, challenges, enablers and benefits had been when developing their impact measurements practices.  The charities were chosen as they were shown to be successfully developing and embedding impact measurement practices. My research has been supervised by NPC and builds on NPC’s ‘Making an Impact’ report (2012) that showed large charities have different practices to charities of other sizes.

Whilst I have found it very difficult to balance the research alongside my work, I have also surprised myself by how much I enjoyed conducting the interviews.  This is a direct result of the fact I learnt so much and had the great fortune to interview some wonderfully passionate, knowledgeable and pragmatic individuals. The interviews have now been analysed and I am in the very last stages of writing and publishing the report. I look forward to launching it in March 2013. .

In addition to the research, I have found time to complete the last elements of my development plan. I completed a course entitled Performance through People, which refreshed and developed my skills as well as two courses on presentations skills. I have also met with my mentor, coach and various Fellows, who continue to inspire and challenge me.

The two years of my Clore Social Fellowship have flown by; it has been an immense privilege to have been given this opportunity and I look forward to using the skills, networks and energy I have gained to develop the sector.
