Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2013
Update Spring 2013
How have the first 3 months of the Fellowship been for you?
The quarter has been as busy as I expected. The highlights have definitely been the residential and the social entrepreneurship class at the London Business School.
What impact has your leadership been having?
I am working on trying to lead more by example, encouraging all my team to reach out of their comfort zones to challenge themselves and learn more in doing so, and building more relationships as it will be through networks that we will deliver the critical support to survivors of the genocide in Rwanda that we strive.
In what way you are a better leader now than at the start of the Fellowship?
I am more proactive, recognising that I need to put myself out there more in order to build relationships to broaden the reach of Survivors Fund (SURF). Also, I am striving to be more reflective, not just doing things because they have always been done, but thinking more critically as to how they will progress our cause.
Can you share an important lesson you’ve learnt?
There is no right or wrong path to realise your leadership potential. It is important to open yourself up to the many possibilities, and listen to your heart (and gut) as well as your head when making key decisions.
What have you learnt from your fellow Fellows?
That there other fellows who have faced and tackled similar challenges to yourself, and that all Fellows have experiences to share as to how to overcome them.
How would you sum up your Clore Social Fellowship experience so far?
It’s an incredible opportunity to reflect on and strengthen your leadership, to better understand yourself and your contribution to the social sector, and to learn from the experience of others.
