Type of Fellowship: Specialist
Year of Fellowship: 2015
Social Finance Fellow (Deloitte)
How have you found the start of your Fellowship. Deborah?
I started off feeling very unsure about what was going to happen. But, after the residential, the research event and my meeting with Deloitte (Deborah is the 2015 Deloitte Specialist Finance Fellow) I started to feel a real sense of what I wanted to achieve. I have a much clearer idea of what my aims are, and I am now starting to link different elements of the programme together. It's been a few months.
What has been your greatest challenge?
Time! This quarter is always my busiest at work, and so finding time to take away from work for quality reflection has been a challenge - particularly in the last month. However I know that I have to be the driver of this, and I have scheduled more time away from my desk.
How has your leadership had an impact on those you work with?
A member of my team has asked me to help her with her own career progression. I have used the open questioning that we use in our Action Learning Sets to help her understand what her goals are. We’ve now organised some external job shadowing to provide her with exposure to the sector and roles she is interested in.
In what way you are a better leader now than at the start of the Fellowship?
I am listening more and trying to speak less!
What pearls of wisdom have you received from the other Fellows?
Andy Jackson has shown me how to be incredibly organised. He is an inspiration on how to get things done.
