Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2011
Update April 2011
My first few months with the Clore Social Leadership Programme have been filled with a real excitement. Having spent the past decade working in the charity sector, with rarely an opportunity for personal and professional development, I decided to fully embrace the opportunities that the Fellowship presented. Feeling very honoured to have the opportunity to do so, I spent my first month letting go of full time employment, and exploring the themes that were raised in my 360° feedback at the start of the year.
The incredible thing about being on the Fellowship full-time is that I have the space to reflect, learn and tune in to my own professional development needs; a first, in what has been a busy career in campaigning, public affairs and policy. Having the residential training course early on in the year, and working with my Fellow cohort has been instrumental in helping me to think through what I need to focus on. My coach has helped me to cement the personal learning within my professional journey, and the various courses I have already taken have helped to develop the skills needed to take my professional development forward.
As this is the first time I have been able to raise my head above the parapet and see how much the social sector has changed, I realised that I have been working in a very narrow space over the past decade. The Fellowship has really helped me to expand my horizons and aim for more. Over the past two months, I have met with a number of inspiring people from the private, public, social and entrepreneurial sectors, and all involved in large and systemic social change on one level or another. I am interested in the unusual spaces between sectors, and in finding ways to bring them together to enable people to improve their world. I am looking forward to working with the Clore Social Leadership Programme over the next ten months to help me get there.
