Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2015
Gary currently works for Ingeus as Director of Youth Services managing a multi-million pound portfolio of youth contracts and maintaining a passion for using technology to create social change.
Having initially worked with offenders and those living with addiction, Gary was keen to find a way to start working with people earlier to help them make better choices in life while also helping to improve the services they receive.
From 2005/06, he piloted a new way of engaging under-represented young people to get more involved in their community. The project was called Young Advisors. In 2007, Gary established the Young Advisors Charity and became the youngest CEO on ACEVO's member register. On setting up the charity, Gary was keen that it should be youth led and successfully campaigned to make it the first charity in England to have trustees under the age of 18. Young Advisors now employs hundreds of young people aged 15–25 nationally with tens of thousands of direct beneficiaries each year.
Gary was awarded an MBE for Services to the Young People of England in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours.
In 2015 Gary was appointed to be on the board of Governors for Manchester University.
In 2017, in addition to giving over 16,000 young people a transformational NCS experience, Gary has qualified as an Executive Coach!
