How have the last 3 months been for you?
It’s been a challenging but fulfilling quarter. I have put together a Leadership Development Plan, met with various potential coaches, had lots of conversations about my research and secondment, and taken part in my first Action Learning Set.
What has been your greatest challenge during the Fellowship so far?
It’s been particularly challenging to narrow down my research, secondment and training ideas. There are so many options and I don’t want to regret not finding the most powerful ways of doing all three of them.
What impact has your leadership been having?
In March, I launched Year Here (www.yearhere.org) at Number 10 Downing Street. I drew together a fantastic range of partner organisations, including Clore Social, and supported Year Here’s ‘fellows’ to play an active part in the event – giving speeches and networking with the attendees.
In what way you are a better leader now than at the start of the Fellowship
I have become more self-aware, realising, through action learning sets and informal catch-ups with other Fellows, how much I draw energy from supporting and working with others.
Can you share an important lesson you’ve learnt?
I've learnt to be more open about where I have questions or concerns. Problems that have been brewing for weeks, or even months, can so often be solved with a purposeful conversation with someone whose judgement your trust – like another Fellow, a coach or an advisor.
How would you sum up your Clore Social Fellowship experience so far?
All the Clore Fellows are on independent journeys but there’s so much more that binds us together than separates us. We have become a tight-knit group of peers – and that’s what has struck me as particularly special about the Programme so far. Positions of leadership can feel lonely, but a group of peers in similar situations can offer you the kind of support, challenge and comradery that makes social leadership feel less isolated – and more connected.
