Paul Hamlyn Social Justice (Migrants) Fellowship
Jean Demars is the former Housing Lead at Praxis Community Projects. He was in this role between 2012 and 2015, leading on Housing, Homelessness and Community Care, where he set up and developed a housing programme for vulnerable and destitute migrants with No Recourse to Public Funds.
His interest is focused on the nature of change within complex systems, which he has applied to social systems. He worked in the homelessness sector between 2000 and 2007, including five years with St Mungo’s in a variety of roles across Housing and Street Outreach services. From 2007 to 2009, he developed humanitarian and socio-cultural projects with asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in London and Morocco. In 2010-11, Jean designed a national programme of community development in Ghana using Participatory Action Research as a tool to create the programme with 100 communities. Jean also acts as a freelance consultant and facilitator on Community Arts projects.
Jean has a degree from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, in International Politics and a Masters degree in Critical Theory and Practice from Goldsmiths College
