Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2012
Update April 2012
The first quarter of the year has been a busy period for me, doing lots of thinking, reflecting on shared experience with other Fellows, making choices and starting to shape-up my year as a full time Clore Social Fellow.
My plan is to get the work done on my research in the first half of the year.
I have already spent lots of time thinking and working on my research already and have decided to focus on a very particular area: the aspirations of Muslim South Asian women arriving in the UK on spousal visas for social inclusion within their first 5 years in the UK. I have chosen this topic as I am deeply interested in diverse range of integration models used in different European countries and the notion of integration in multicultural society.
I have attended several trainings organised by Clore which I found useful, including a joint session on Governance with the Clore Leadership Fellows – this was really eye-opening and thought-provoking.
My learning so far includes:
• Be yourself!
• From the Four Seasons preferences exercise, I have discovered that I am a ‘winter’ and work at a different speed to other people. To be remembered, when I get frustrated!
• What I think lots of other people might be thinking ... and if I don’t say it I will never know what they might be thinking.
