Type of Fellowship: Specialist
Year of Fellowship: 2010
Update August 2010
My project on impact chains has progressed really well. I’m working with New Philanthropy Capital to produce a report in the autumn, with a series of case studies from across the social sector, demonstrating how large charities can achieve more impact by working with their smaller peers.
I’ve also done a mini-secondment with the British Red Cross in Nottinghamshire, looking at the complexities around delivering emergency-response social care to vulnerable adults. The project identified a way for the Red Cross to contribute to preventing social care crises as well as responding to them, and hopefully saving money for GP Commissioners along the way.
The two reports that I wrote for NCVO’s Funding Commission have now been published, and I’m pleased that the draft recommendations that have emerged appear to draw on my work.
I recently completed a ten week course at London Business School, as part of which I worked with my fellow Fellow, Caroline Beaumont to develop a business plan for a new venture based at St Giles Trust – it looks like the charity will take it forward, and we’re delighted!
I’ve also had a foray into the arts and cultural sector – firstly developing a new strategy alongside the Director of a-n, a not-for-profit company which supports the professional development of visual artists, and secondly, working with Mission, Money and Models on their Capital Matters project to look at the data demonstrating the need for capital in this sector.
I’m now on secondment at NESTA (who fund my Fellowship); I’m starting work on a project looking at the new Government’s proposed Big Society Bank.
