Year of Fellowship: 2010

RNIB-funded Fellowship for a registered blind or partially sighted individual

Update March 2011

A great deal has happened in the last six months. It became clear that I wasn’t going to be able to complete my Fellowship by the end of the year, so I extended it until the end of May 2011.

I am now two thirds of the way through my secondment, working for three months on establishing a Coalition for Independent Living in Wrexham. We now have a fledgling user –led organisation which is thinking about how it fits in with what is already in place, and how to prioritise future work. I hope I can leave the organisation in a state which enables it to grow and thrive after my departure.

I began my coaching back in September and am thoroughly enjoying exploring life, the universe, and everything with my wonderful coach, Bev Morton. Research has taken a bit of a back seat while I'm on my secondment, but I have conducted several interviews and found a collaborator who wants to work with me to publish a joint article and to present to a relevant conference.

I have started the MSC in Digital Inclusion which I am finding fascinating, but have to admit that it’s difficult to fit in alongside other commitments.
