Type of Fellowship: General
Year of Fellowship: 2013
Update Autumn 2014
How have you found this quarter?
Another busy three months, with real momentum building at Shared Assets and lots of work going into my Fellowship. I’ve sorted out my secondment with the LA River Revitalisation Corp and have already started doing some work for them. I’m also hoping to take a trip to Ecuador to visit some interesting projects. I’ve found a brilliant mentor and she is helping supervise my research which is coming along nicely.
How has your leadership had an impact on those you work with?
I attended a fundraising event as a trustee Toynbee Hall, an organisation which works to eradicate poverty in the EastEnd of London. The event involved networking with VIPs and speaking in front of the audience about Toynbee’s work with young people. I found all this very nerve-wracking and outside of my comfort zone! It was interesting for me just how uncomfortable I found the idea of being in the role of asking people for money. However we recieved a £3000 cheque at the end of the event which was great.
In what way you are a better leader now than at the start of the Fellowship?
I have been thinking a lot about the “look after yourself” part of the Clore Social mantra. I am not always very good at this, and have been trying to make an effort to say when I am not feeling good – which makes me feel vulnerable. This is still definitely a work in progress! I have learnt that there are cycles to things, and that’s ok. Things have their own momentum even when it feels like they might be stuck.
What have you learnt from your fellow Fellows?
My Action Learning Set continue to be wonderful and supportive and practical all at the same time. My Clore Social Fellowship continues to be an amazing, challenging and wonderful experience: I am learning more and more and developing all the time!
