Type of Fellowship: Specialist
Year of Fellowship: 2011

The Calouste Gulbenkian Fellowship for an aspiring leader committed to innovative approaches to policy and practical work with people experiencing multiple needs and exclusions.

Update April 2012

My life as a full time Clore Fellow is transmuting into my life as a social enterprise consultant.  Despite my antipathy towards the title ‘consultant’ this new role is allowing me to work in a leadership capacity for a number of organisations and on a number of fascinating projects: from social finance for social franchising to job creation in the green economy.  The Fellowship has been crucial in helping me take on this new role.  More important even than the practical skills and contacts that I have developed during my Fellowship has been learning to build on my strengths, abilities and identifying how to harness these to deliver maximum social impact.
I have also continued to undertake further training, thanks to the Clore Social Leadership Programme.  I have begun the journey toward qualifying as a Social Return on Investment (SROI) Practitioner, and my coach is helping me to remain strategic and reflective, combating my natural tendency to dive into detail and action!

My research into social enterprise and homelessness continues to progress.  In April I will be embarking upon the analysis and report writing stage, with a view to publishing something practical for those involved in work integration social enterprises later this year.

Perhaps the area where my Fellowship continues to have the biggest impact however is through collaboration with other Fellows and the support we provide each other.  I’ve already been involved formally collaborating on a number of projects with other Fellows, and informally I’ve enjoyed being able to share our knowledge and expertise. I’m confident that the friendships we’ve developed over the past 15 months will continue to be important for many years to come.
