Update December 2011

This year has flown by, it’s been emotional but more rewarding that I can actually write in words. There will be a lot of post Clore reflection and I think there will be a number of things that come out of the Fellowship that I am currently unaware of. It’s been great to be part of a network of inspirational and inspired people.

The residential training was one of my favourite parts of the Fellowship. They always seemed to be at the right time in my journey/development. I thought the first two residentials where we had the 360 review and the ‘know yourself’ sessions were particularly insightful. The last residential was very powerful in terms of helping me to reflect; I am now a fan of using poetry in leadership.
Residentials on the whole are emotive, engaging and they get you thinking in a different way about challenges, success and exactly who you want to be as a leader.

Another highlight of my Fellowship was my coaching sessions, like the residentials they were scheduled at just the right time. Coaching was a space to really download my thoughts and question my logic with someone who wouldn’t judge. My coach was very good at relaying what I had said in a way that made me think about and experience it differently. This approach often helped put things in
perspective. Often seemingly big things were small and small things were deep-rooted bigger issues. I’ll invest in coaching long term as I think it could be the difference between becoming an average/okay leader vs. a great leader and I obviously want to be the latter!

Aside from the programme schedule, the other gem comes in the form of the Fellows themselves. A great network of inspiring people who believe in creating positive social change. They are also a peer group that you give permission to tell you like it is, to call you out on your not so great points and encourage you to do better. Having people around you who have built successful careers and can list tangible achievements is humbling and at the same time energising.
