Type of Fellowship: Specialist
Year of Fellowship: 2012
Update October 2012
In the last quarter, I identified a coach and moved forward on my secondment ideas; I also contacted a potential mentor. I was on extended leave, including paternity leave, for the whole of August, but I moved forward significantly in my Fellowship in various areas.
First, I decided to take up training on making videos for social media use. I took this up both because I have commissioned and expect to continue commissioning videos, and because Runnymede is expanding our video and social media outputs in the context of launching a public campaign in 2013.
Of the many opportunities provided by Clore, I am finding the Action Learning sets particularly valuable. I presented my particular concerns during this quarter, and it was probably the greatest challenge during my Fellowship – even more so as I followed up the set with some specific actions. I can’t say this was easy, nor indeed that it was 100% successful, however, I wouldn’t have been able fully to recognise my problem, consider possible responses, much less take action without the set, and without knowing that I would have to report back on what I did.
I’ve thought quite a lot about my secondment and am approaching Google via two contacts. The focus of my approach also links to my research project on data visualization. My Director has agreed to my taking up the secondment between February and April 2013.
Another major element of my Fellowship that is falling into place is my coaching. I have identified a possible coach and am having an initial meeting in the first week of October. Now that I’m a bit clearer about my Fellowship, or rather now that I am clearer about the question I hope to address, I expect to gain more from my coaching.
