Richard Holmes

Richard Holmes’ practice-based research looks at the social dimensions of new settlements, focusing on community growth in Kingsway Village and Coopers Edge in Gloucestershire. The research used the recently-published Social Sustainability Framework, commissioned by the Housing & Community Agency, to identify common challenges and catalysts that have stimulated community growth. Richard was given research supervision by the Young Foundation. Richard’s Fellowship has been funded by Nesta.

Richard’s research report was launched at an event at Coopers Edge Primary School - located at the heart of one of the settlements looked at in the research - on 17 July 2012. Attendees at the event included a local Councillor and planner, and representatives from the Barnwood Trust. Richard presented his research and findings, with additional reflections on the housing context provided by Tricia Hackett from the Young Foundation.
