Update September 2011

In the last three months I completed my secondment as lead on the Philanthropy Review by launching our call-to-action for a society where more people give and people give more. The publication was widely well received and indeed acclaimed for the clarity of thinking – HM Treasury officials for instance said that our proposals on fiscal incentives particularly living legacies were the most comprehensive and clearly set out that they had seen to date. I was also given the opportunity to speak as part of the panel at our launch event and to present our findings at the Community Foundation Network (CFN) Conference and specifically the CFN inquiry into 21stcentury philanthropy. Shortly after the June launch we then launched a further report developed in partnership with Accenture as a feasibility study into the mainstreaming of charity bank accounts through the high street banks which was also well received and was an important step in showing that the call-to-action was never meant to be the be-all and end-all but rather to inspire debate and collaborative action towards a more giving society.

The secondment was an incredible opportunity and overall we achieved so much more than we had ever expected.

My research piece has been on hold for these past few months as the Philanthropy Review has absorbed all my energies. However I am excited to return to the piece this autumn for a November launch. NCVO, ACEVO amongst others have offered their support to speed me on for which I’m extremely grateful.

I was so pleased to be asked to interview with Third Sector for one of their profile pieces which was published in June, I have also been invited to chair a one-day conference in December for Third Sector and am excited by the challenge this offers.
