Teach to lead: What can leaders learn from teachers?
By Eugenie Teasley , December 2015
What can leaders learn from teachers? Could pedagogical theories be relevant for charity chief execs and managers? Are the mechanics of teaching in any way useful beyond corralling a group of 30-odd children?
As part of the Clore Social Leadership Programme, Eugenie Teasley interviewed ten social sector leaders to discover whether key teaching and learning theories are or could be useful to them to support the development of their teams. As a former teacher, it was a personal quest masquerading as a professional one: "It would be so neat and such a relief," she said, "if I could objectively prove that the skills and theories I learned back then are applicable and helpful in the world I am now in."
The overlaps between the two were striking. Eugenie has made all the interviews and her findings available on her blog. She has also worked with a designer to turn the brilliant insights of her interviewees into a beautifully-designed poster and pocket-sized DIY guide. Find all of them on her blog here.
