Emerging Leader 2019

Launching our Emerging Leader Programme 2019

We are delighted to launch our Emerging Leader Programme 2019 for 24 social leaders with 3-6 years' experience who seek to boost their leadership potential and become more effective leaders.

This six-month immersive leadership development journey is designed in collaboration with Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML) and aims to foster talent by developing essential leadership skills through individual coaching sessions, online courses, real-life challenges, and peer-to-peer learning. Drawing on all aspects of our Social Leaders’ Capabilities Framework which outlines the attributes, behaviours and skills required to become successful social leaders, the programme is aimed at ambitious and committed leaders who want to expand their leadership capabilities and make a real and lasting difference within the sector.

Thanks to the generous support of BofAML, the programme will include a Youth specialism, offering fully funded places for selected BofAML grantees operating in the Youth sector. The specialism has been previously created in collaboration with a panel of Youth sector charity experts who helped identify and define the core qualities necessary for emerging talent to succeed and prosper in the third sector youth space.

Commenting on the launch, Andrea Sullivan, International Executive, Global Environmental, Social and Governance at Bank of America Merrill Lynch said: “We are delighted to support this programme, which plays an important role in nurturing and cultivating effective leaders and helps to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to drive the youth charity sector forward.”

We are delighted to widen and continue our partnership with BofAML to ensure we continue to offer development opportunities which nurture talent and enhance collaboration in the Youth sector. Commenting on the impact of previous programmes dedicated to the Youth sector, BofAML grantee Hannah Sharp, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Think Forward said:

The Youth Programme provided me with an opportunity to learn and apply the latest thinking on leadership. But more than this it opened up an incredible network within the sector which has inspired discussion and action, which will not only benefit us as individuals but hopefully the longer term development of the youth sector.”

As it aims to cultivate a UK wide pipeline of resilient and effective leaders, the programme will also offer subsidised places for individuals working for organisations based in Northern Ireland and Wales. Through its focus on peer-to-peer learning, the programme is designed to build networks and strengthen collaboration between people and organisations within and outside of their immediate sector.

Recruitment is now open for the 2019 intake, with 24 places available for social leaders seeking to become more effective in their leadership roles. Applications will close on Monday, 1 April 2019, with the programme commencing in June 2019.
